WOMEN EMPOWERMENT

Women’s economic empowerment is central to realizing women’s rights and gender equality. Women’s economic empowerment includes women’s ability to participate equally in existing markets; their access to and control over productive resources, access to decent work, control over their own time, lives and bodies; and increased voice, agency and meaningful participation in economic decision-making at all levels from the household to international institutions.

Empowering women in the economy

Empowering women in the economy and closing gender gaps in the world of work is key to achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development [1] and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 5, to achieve gender equality, and Goal 8, to promote full and productive employment and decent work for all; also Goal 1 on ending poverty, Goal 2 on food security, Goal 3 on ensuring health and Goal 10 on reducing inequalities.

NHFGN is carrying out several activities across the world on women's empowerment, and the projects are aimed at giving women a voice in their homes and communities. Your support in this area will help us reach out to millions of women living in poverty in several countries across the world.

Gender-based violence awareness

NHFGN is working to raise awareness of gender-based violence across the world as peace begins in the home.

Our strategy for preventing gender-based violence?

  1. Creating safe spaces for children, from home to the school system and beyond.

  2. Encouraging parents to get involved in childcare and form closer connections with their  children from the beginning

  3. Raising boys to break free from harmful stereotypes.

SEXUAL REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH & RIGHTS

NHFGN is putting its efforts into promoting the following:

  • Access to safe and effective contraceptive methods protects people from unintended pregnancies and ensures a healthier future

  • Comprehensive sexual education empowers young people to make informed decisions about their sexuality and relationships in a way that protects their health

  • Family planning and counselling: making sure it should be respectful of human rights and their partners; free of stigma and discrimination

  • Ensuring access to safe, affordable, high-quality sexual and reproductive health services and information are part of the rights and well-being of all people

  • Integrating family planning and HIV services with other health services to ensure that women receive comprehensive health care may also reduce financial and logistical barriers and protect women's privacy

Girls need to know and have information on how to protect themselves from HIV, their  HIV status, and if HIV positive, what to do to go on antiretroviral therapy, using male or female condoms with their partners.

Your support for this project will go a long way in making our work reach millions of women and girls across the world.
